The Next Step for TSA

Oh, come on. You’re not surprised at this, are you?

As part of the TSA’s request for FY 2012 funding, TSA Administrator John Pistole told Congress last week that the TSA conducts 8,000 unannounced security screenings every year. These screenings, conducted with local law enforcement agencies as well as immigration, can be as simple as checking out cargo at a busy seaport. But more and more, they seem to involve giving airport-style pat-downs and screenings of unsuspecting passengers at bus terminals, ferries, and even subways.

You really should read the whole thing. TSA has already searched children getting off of trains, passengers on a bus in Tampa and a trolley in San Diego. They are trying to increase the number of VIPR teams to 37.

This is what a police state looks like. Gangs of armed federal officials wandering around demanding to search people and, while they’re at it, busting them for drugs, contraband, immigration status, outstanding warrants or whatever they can get on them.

Someone needs to reign in the TSA. Now.

Papers “please” is exactly where it’s going. Good progressives will willingly comply, the rest of us are going to start shooting at some point.

any one know if there are any good ammo sales?

HARLEY, the best prices I’ve found, that are consistently low, is Sportsmansguide.com. And more military surplus than you could imagine.

And I don’t believe anyone is going to be shooting anyone else in any great numbers. These are the last days of the Empire. But there will be a lot of this:

“First they came for the communists,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.

    Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.”

I’m probably being naive here, but what the hell is a federal agency doing conducting searches on local transit systems? There is a bit of an argument for Amtrak and Greyhound due to their nationwide reach, but not for a trolley system that doesn’t leave a single city.

I was wondering that myself – what the fuck are they using to justify their authority to do this? Someone is going to demand a warrant sooner or later and then the video will be all over YouTube in minutes.

How Napolitano justifies this, or any of her actions over the last 2.5 years, just blows my mind. The GOP needs to be trotting this shit out during the election as how the government has gone imperialistic since Obama took office.

And then demand TSA’s head on a pike…

Not trying to argue with you, but the GOP is not going to help you (us) here, nor do they have any interest in doing so.

The GOP is responsible for this. All the groundwork was laid by a Republican WH, House and Senate in the form of the (UN)Patriot Act and the consolidation of both foreign and domestic security and law enforcement agencies under the umbrella of the Department of Homeland Security.

While a case can be made that the GOP’s use of the new law/agency wasn’t as clear an affront to the Constitution as the current administration’s has been, it is their idea, their law, and their outrageous disregard for individual rights as delineated in the Constitution that made it possible for Obama et al to trample our rights with such impunity. If anyone thinks the GOP will save this country, all they have to do is listen for Rove, Hannity, Bachmann, Palin, Santorum, Gingrich, Limbaugh, Pawlenty, or any of the more public spokespeople/candidates to decry the mistake that was made by their party in filling the “holes” in security that existed pre-9/11. In case anyone hasn’t figured it out yet, those “holes” were nothing more than our liberties, and not one of the establishment GOP’ers even pretends to want to undo their “mistake.”

We better have more than another meaningless vote for the GOP as a defense to the theft of our birthright, because that vote only rewards the thieves, while ensuring their collective boot grinds ever-harder on our collective neck.

It’s an election cycle – capitalizing on your opponents mistakes is a given. But in this case they act like they’re blind to it all.

Looks like it’s up to us to inform them of just how far they’ve stepped over the line.
