Escalating the War on Pot

You know what? Obama is kind of a dick sometimes:

The Department of Justice sent out a memo today instructing the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration and leading officials in the U.S. Attorneys Office to treat medical marijuana shops as top priorities for prosecutors and drug investigators.

The memo, authored by Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole, “clarifies” a memo released in 2009 that declared medical marijuana sales in states that have legalized it to be a low priority for law enforcement and prosecutors. The so-called “Ogden memo” first appeared to drug law reformers as evidence that Pres. Obama was dialing back the war on drugs. The DEA and U.S. Attorneys office continued to go after state-legal grow operations and marijuana shops after the memo was first circulated, leading reformers to conclude that Obama was lying when he said on the campaign trail that he had no interest in going after medical marijuana.

The Ogden memo advised DEA’s and USA’s to back off from legal pot shops unless they were tied to organized crime or other illegal activities, like prostitution. It wasn’t followed by everyone, but there was a drop in busts. What they’re doing now is narrowing the Ogden memo so that it just means that law enforcement officials won’t drag actual patients with tubes dangling into prison. But they will go after anyone who grows or sells it, even if the are specifically authorized by the state: Here’s a direct quote:

Persons who are in the business of cultivating, selling or distributing marijuana, and those who knowingly facilitate such activities, are in violation of the Controlled Substances Act, regardless of state law. Consistent with resource constraints and the discretion you may exercise in your district, such persons are subject to federal enforcement action, including potential prosecution. State laws or local ordinances are not a defense to civil or criminal enforcement of federal law with respect to such conduct, including enforcement of the CSA. Those who engage in transactions involving the proceeds of such activity may also be in violation of federal money laundering statutes and other federal financial laws.

In other words, you could end up getting smacked with RICO because your wife runs a legal, licensed medical marijuana shop.

It is clear that Obama does not have the stones to do the right thing (not that this is any surprise). And it is equally clear that the federal law enforcement industrial complex is too deeply committed to this. DEA agents, US attorneys, the IRS — these guys are evaluated by how many people they bust and put in jail, not how much justice they create.

Enough. It’s time to rally the troops behind the Paul-Frank bill that would end this disaster. It’s time to return marijuana law to the states, where it should have been all along. Maybe the bill doesn’t have a chance. But it will force Obama and his fellow travelers to admit that they have a hard-on for taking medicine away from sick people, that they have zero respect for the states and for individual liberty.

I’m tired of this battle being fought in the dark, with secret memos and nebulous laws. It’s time to turn on the spotlights and make these fuckers run for cover.

The Yearbook Committee

The latest “OMG! What about about the children!” over-reaction.

Authorities investigating an alleged sex crime captured in the 2011 Big Bear High School yearbook said Tuesday their work is ongoing, but that charges eventually could be filed.

The high school made headlines last week when a photograph depicting a 17-year-old male student with his hands inside the clothing of a 15-year-old female student at a school dance was published in the yearbook.

It’s not clear exactly what was photographed. Reports are that the camera captured his hand up her short dress. When it was discovered, the authorities decreed that this constituted child pornography and ordered the yearbooks recalled. Yes, a picture of a 17 y/o groping a clothed 15 y/o is now the equivalent of kiddie porn.

That itself wouldn’t be so bad. But now they’re talking about charging the boy with a sex crime. California, despite its reputation, has a ridiculous age of consent law. Age of consent in 18, which is fine. But most sensible states make an exception if the two involved are within three years in age. In Cali, that just reduces it to a misdemeanor (if it’s consenting; forcible is a felony and should be). This kid could do jail time and presumably end up being labelled a sex offender with all the suffering and life-ruination that entails.

Well, you know what he authorities have to say about that:

Crimes involving the sexual penetration of a minor fall under child abuse statutes, MacKay said, and school and law enforcement officials are required to report and investigate such incidents.

“As much as we know teenagers are and will be teenagers, by law we cannot ignore it,” MacKay said.

In other words, no discretion is allowed. If the authorities find out that two teenager are engaged in any sexual activity, they are required to ruin their lives (or at least, ruin the boy’s life).

This is insane. And if you read the comments on the article, everyone with two brain cells to rub together realizes it’s insane. A good prosecutor would say, “Well, having your hand up someone’s dress isn’t penetration. And the photos a little blurry anyway. Shucks, guess we have to drop the charges.” A better one would say, “This is an illustration of how insane our laws are. I refuse to engage in this bullshit even if it costs me my job.”

But in the insane asylum that is our legal system, charging a 17 y/o boy with a sex crime for groping his girlfriend’s thigh is considered normal.

Deconstructing Bias Within The Media

This is one of those DUH moments, the proverbial palm slap to forehead, where I write a post about political bias within news organizations and everyone gives me the award for being champion of the obvious. But my usual comeback is, “It’s worse then you think”. Getting away with transgressions committed against The Savior is all about where you stand on the pecking order of liberal hierarchy, if you are closer to the middle (thus farther away from the kool aid fringe on the extremities) and you cross the line, your line (and livelihood) is toast.

For those not familiar with Mark Halperin , he is a left of center pundit how actually plugs in his brain when he writes. When you can gain an audience both with the NYT crowd and those of the WSJ, you must write compelling stuff. He wrote Game Change, about the last presidential election, and is the senior political analyst for MSNBC (don’t put that on any resume). He made a comment on Morning Joe the other day:

Wow, I know, what profanity, what a little potty mouth, calling someone a dick. But remember the context, he fully expected that whole line to get deleted out. He asked about the seven second delay button (his get out of jail free card) and was assured by the hosts that they had his back. This isn’t something like Biden’s ,”This is a big f-cking deal” where any automobile dummy would know there are microphones present, he was careful, he checked first to make sure that his comment would never see the light of day.

I use to really like Joe Scarborough, but living in the land of lunacy (MSNBC) has turned him into, well, kind of a dick. But back to Halperin, is this blowing up anyone’s skirt? This is like rest room chatter between stalls, an expectation of privacy exists.

It turns out that the delay button was never used and viola, Obama is a dick hit the airwaves. Naturally he did the required mea culpas (is it any surprise that that hire chimpanzees to run the technical stuff over at that network?), but the party of not being able to take a joke, and the network that mouthpieces and propagandizes that party certainly can’t take a joke and they summarily axed Halperin.

Mark Halperin’s comments this morning were completely inappropriate and unacceptable. We apologize to the President, The White House and all of our viewers. We strive for a high level of discourse and comments like these have no place on our air. Therefore, Mark will be suspended indefinitely from his role as an analyst.

Marky is a bad boy, and he can kiss that NYT gig good bye as well, nobody wants a doubter of the ideology being part (or even in the same room) with the party faithful, a fatwa on his head.

It is interesting to see how indignant the LSM got over something pretty innocuous, and considering how Obama acted in that press conference, the petulant whining, buck passing and the hissy fit over him having to justify his actions in Libya (we don’t need no stinking congressional authority), calling him a dick was generous.

If any of those clowns at MSNBC got fired over inappropriate disrespectful comments aimed at the last president, there would be crickets chirping in the studious (as opposed to the chirping going on with their ratings). A bad case of overreaction? considering on what network those comments were made and who was called a dick, I expected women fainting, plugs being pulled and men all shouting in unison, “someone get a rope”.

On more reasoned and mature discourse from Leftists

As you may not have heard, Glenn Beck and his family were assaulted in a New York City park. Now, first, before I get into it, I will clarify that when I say “assault”, it seems to have been only in the legal sense of the word… what happened to them was assault by the legal definition, and was from the moment the wine was spilled on his wife. That’s assault, brotha, even if it’s not the fist-meet-face sort.

Of course, reaction from the left in general has ranged from “It’s just more of his demented lies, no one who opposes Glenn Beck would do such a thing” to “The bastard had it coming, it’s his own fault, shame it wasn’t something worse”.  Well… those two things don’t work together terribly well, but hey, doesn’t stop some people from putting them together in the exact same post on the subject.

Of course, Glenn Beck has the right to his views and no-one should ever take that right away from him… but y’know, the right to speak goes both ways, so if someone wants to boo and heckle you, they’ve got that right too, especially if you’re the kind of bloke who can lose his bap on-air and furious slate a caller, only for you to call them a “pinhead”.

So, just to be clear, having a TV show and saying things people don’t like means that people can shout at you and insult you as you walk along the street. It also excuses physical damage to your person or possessions. Might as well have been honest and followed up “but y’know” with what he actually meant, “he shouldn’t be allowed to actually speak about them”. In fact, note the distinction there… Beck has the right to his views, not to express his views. Clearly, being a conservative is okay, just so long as you don’t go around making it all obvious you’re a conservative. Y’know. Maybe you could tone down the conservativeness, to spare the feelings of those who could be offended. Be conservative on your own time, not in public where children could be exposed to that sort of lifestyle. Don’t see how that could be offensive to ask of all you Pubs.

Speaking of closet conservatives, expect to see a lot of Beatles CDs burn-… I mean, mp3s deleted. Turns out that Lennon was not the die-hard, eternal counterculture true believer many thought he was. I think this has a high probability of being true, since the one dropping this little revelation tries to make excuses for him:

“He’d met Reagan back, I think, in the ’70s at some sporting event. … Reagan was the guy who had ordered the National Guard, I believe, to go after the young [peace] demonstrators in Berkeley, so I think that John maybe forgot about that. … He did express support for Reagan, which shocked me,” he told “Beatles Stories” filmmaker Seth Swirsky.

First of all, looove the ambiguous wording there. “Go after”. Just enough to imply horrible things without actually giving any claims to be debunked. The incident between the national guard and the protestors has become like a drinking story for the left re: the right’s fascist tendencies. Every time it gets told, it’s more violent and more of a jackbooted crackdown. But aaaanyway, the fact that he tries to excuse Lennon by saying he “forgot” about it it, while making sure to bring it up all the same, says this guy is probably speaking the truth when he talks about Lennon’s conservative leanings. “Don’t hate him too much for it, okay? It may have been just a phase or something. It’s not like he was one of those flaming conservatives.”

But speaking of entertainers, and wandering back to the Beck incident, let us ponder the person of Jon Stewart. The man who held a supposedly sincere “Rally to Restore Sanity”, to plead with people to tone down their partisan hatred, to cut down on the vicious rhetoric. (Okay, so he doesn’t allow conservative pundits on his show, but he really isn’t partisan, honest!) But hey, that’s just his show, right? It’s just comedy. Surely, being that the Rally was a non-partisan effort to reach out and plead for reasonable discourse, he would take some time to deplore the actions taken towards Glenn Beck, yes? That’s not very sane, that’s not very reasonable, it deserves chastisement from someone whose opinion could theoretically matter to the perpetrators.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like he’s going to find time to do so, what with his busy schedule of making racist comments about Herman Cain. Don’t expect to find the video on the Daily Show’s site… or much on youtube, either, straaaangely enough, as this was the best I could find. (Admittedly, maybe I’m not looking in the right places. Feel free to prove me wrong on that one.)

Sorry for the nasally douche after, but that’s the only clip of the actual incident I could find. Most of the videos regarding the incident are liberals defending Stewart for making “the obvious joke” and sneering at Cain for having a thin skin. Similarly, most of the news articles (of which there are few) on the subject are busy making Stewart the victim, accusing Cain of playing the race card and of being thin-skinned about a harmless joke.

If you have to take a moment to actually process the irony of all this without your head exploding, I understand. I think we all need a headache break after that one. If you don’t, maybe it’s time to reevaluate your standards.

Let’s just take a moment to think about this, alright? A white political pundit mocks a black politician using a racial stereotype, caps it off with stating that the black politician is obviously stupid because he “doesn’t like to read”, and the general response of the news media is… to defend the white guy and chastise the black guy.

I mean, sure, this isn’t actually anything new. For godsakes Fox itself airs at least an hour of what’s essentially the same thing every week. Seth MacFarlane votes Democrat and openly despises conservatives and everything even slightly related to conservatives (except Conway Twitty, I don’t know if that’s him being deliberately ironic or what… oh, and Fox, obviously, whose money he’s glad to accept lots and lots of), so he can get away with making openly racist jokes. Same thing with Stewart… he is a Speaker Of The Narrative, to be defended no matter what.

Fun little side note here, when trying to look up the racist quotes made about Clarence Thomas by various people, I discovered that leftists have their own catchy little name for blacks who go off the reservation by registering Republican: “Rethuglitoms”. Shockingly, Google and Wikipedia seem to have buried or deleted most of these references… I know, I wouldn’t have expected that either. (Where’s the sarcasm tag? Ah screw it.) It doesn’t seem to have bothered to cover up the same vitriol by black people themselves, though… Spike Lee, so famously angry at white people for, well, living, doesn’t seem to have had problems referring to Thomas as a “chicken-and-biscuit eating Uncle Tom”… a statement I’m sure he feels proud of every time he looks over his large collection of black stereotype memorabilia.

Again, anyway. Even if you don’t agree with the tactic some are starting to suggest… that conservatives borrow from Democrat-supporters and begin decrying all criticism of Cain as racist, even when it’s obviously not… it’s hard to argue that Stewart’s comments would not have been considered wildly racist had they been made about Barack Obama. Well… it’s obviously not that hard, you’ve just got to abandon those little things like “integrity” and “honesty” and “consistency” and then it starts getting really really easy, to judge by the amount of it. Heck, go looking for the story yourself, you’ll have a tough time finding one that even mentions the incident outside of the context of defending Stewart and rebuking Cain (or, at the very least, tries to spin it as Cain letting Stewart off the hook).

If this is sanity, stop the sanitarium, please, I’d like to get on.

They Grow Up So Fast

Our Whacky Putter-in-Chief just made another gaffe, bless his little heart. While trying to scold Congress for not doing their job and goofing off too much (yeah, irony alert of the century) he got too cute by half in using his kids as examples of diligence:

Well, at least he got their names right, teleprompter be praised. Turns out Malia is only 12. Yes, she will be 13 soon (13 does come after 12) so he did have basic math on his side. A small oversight, not worthy of making every single news feed like a John Wayne/Waterloo Iowa gaffe. That old joke about so and so couldn’t be any dumber if his head was cut off, only reserved for Republicans of course, and when you think about it, it is remarkable that they kept that curtain closed for as long as they did. But I think our president is finally getting exposed for the light weight that he always was.

The Congress does need a good swift kick in the butt, but the last time Obama tried his hand at budgeting it got voted down by the Senate 97-0, maybe he should just stick to cheer leading and let the adults do the actual working with the numbers.

More Bronze Ronnie’s

The sad thing about youth is that they have no yardstick for comparison sake, a skewed point of reference. They look at Mr. 90 handicap, his bouncing into walls and his lurch of inertia, and they think this is presidential, too bad.

In Budapest Hungary they just erected a statue of a real president, check it out:

No missile defense batteries for them.

The Statue, appropriately enough will be placed right in the middle of Freedom Square.

A statue of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan was unveiled Wednesday in Hungary’s capital, where he was honored for his leadership in helping to end communism.

The bronze 2-meter (7-foot) likeness of the 40th president was erected in Budapest at Freedom Square, near both the U.S. Embassy and a World War II memorial to Soviet soldiers killed during the ouster of the Nazis from Hungary.
—–
Reagan was remembered for the aid and encouragement he gave Hungary and other former Soviet satellite states in Eastern Europe to gain back their freedom.

Reagan “changed the world and created a new world for Central Europe,” Orban said at the unveiling ceremony. “He tore down the walls which were erected in the path of freedom in the name of distorted and sick ideologies.

7 feet tall? the one in London’s Grosvenor Square has that beat by 3 feet.

Hungary is not the first ex communist country to recognize the Cold Warrior, Warsaw Poland erected one a few years back.

“The statue is a way for his legacy to live on,” said Janusz Dorosiewicz, a businessman behind the private project.
—-
“Reagan was the person who defeated the communists and opened the way for freedom in Poland,” he said.

Since The Gibber had a plaque on his desk that read ,”It is amazing what one can do if he does not care who gets the credit”, I suspect he would value the efforts of the freedom fighters on the ground over his doings in Washington, but I bet he would think this is kinda cool nonetheless.

I’ll leave you with this:

A war every lib can love..

That’s class warfare, and Obama delivers big-time! I mean, BIGTIME! It’s no wonder we are now seeing things like this.

Seriously, do the democrats get the fact that even if most Americans would have let them get away with ripping of the productive off in good times, that now, when so many need jobs, this stuff is not just resented, but angers most people? Guess not. If there was only a strategic reserve of hippies Obama could use to temporaraily pretend things are going his way.

BTW, I would love for Obama to show me some of the corporate jest owned by people making $250K or even $500K that he implies is the trade off between kids not getting to attend an institute of higher leftists indoctrination (that’s a college for those of you that are liberal-challenged), food no longer being inspected and kids getting poisoned, and kids being used to excuse whatever stupid the left wants to sell. Well, Obama didn’t say the last one, but he did imply that big government has to cut back, it will do so by getting rid of those things that will cause the most harm to society at large, first, so the kids feel the most pain. Now, where do we see a similar tactic employed whenever state entities have to cut funds, huh?

The usual lapdogs in the LSM all loved the speech however, and are pissed at those pointing out this was nothing more than the usual shit you get from listening to Castro, Chavez, any of the Kims, or all those other glorious leaders of such kinds of social paradises. Pfeh!

Greenpeace Punks VW

The capitalist pig consumer in me loves clever commercials. Anything witty, satirical, or makes fun of those that deserve, well, to be made fun off, and it takes more than a scantily clad woman with a nice rack, although that doesn’t hurt. If I’m visibly out loud laughing or on the flip side getting my heart strings pulled, I’m more apt to pay attention and take their product seriously.

The bigs of showcasing new commercials is the Superbowl (which reminds me, this fricking NLF lock out better end damn quick or I’m going postal), and what stole the show last time was this VW ad:

Solid gold, it blew everything else up like a death star zapping Alderaan.

Fast forward several months to this new Greenpeace ad, see something similar?

Those AGW weenies, can’t leave well enough alone, good plug for VW though. I hope George Lucas sues the crap out of them. You would think Greenpeace would find easier targets over at Hummer or even GM, they make those massive boat size SUVS. VW makes small cars, you know, gas efficient vehicles. Greenpeace masquerades as the Rebel Alliance (don’t they have some fishing boat to harass?) but this ad does not move me or cause me to shun VW in any way. Yes, they are late to the party wrt electric and hybrid vehicles, but their stuff is popular in America, and you know that those elitists in Manhattan, San Francisco and Boston are slurping up Jetta’s with the rest of us.

Some PSA’s work. This PETA PSA ran about a year ago, not bad, I liked watching the ad with a plate of ribs in front of me.

My all time favorite PSA is a seat belt ad, tell me this does not punch you right in the mouth with it’s simplicity and effectiveness, if you have anything (or anyone) to live for, buckle up, enough said.

Maddow Under Fire

Hmm. Not so fun when it happens to you, is it?

Following the announcement on Friday of same sex marriage legalization in New York, Rachel Maddow made a comment on her MSNBC show — a comment which invited a backlash Maddow could not have expected.

“Obama is against what just happened” she said, to express that the president had not supported marriage equality; something Maddow has pointed out numerous times. The MSNBC host is correct in so far as Obama has not lobbied in support of same sex marriage — his so-called “evolving” position on the issue has culminated in his calling New York’s vote “a good thing.” But Maddow’s comment invited a backlash on Twitter from Obama fans, and some of the criticism was heated.

Those of us who have criticized Obama know exactly what was thrown at her. She was accused of lying, accused of being a hater, accused of being racist — all because she happened to say something that was true, which is that Barack Obama has stated, multiple times, his opposition to gay marriage.

Leftie critics of Obama are surprised when his happens, even though they frequently engage in such invective themselves. Think Maddow will ponder this the next time she nods as some dim-bulb guest says the Obamacare opposition is fueled by racism?

Are those crickets I hear?

Impetuous Youth

On the surface, the appeal of the Democratic party is rather obvious, especially for young people. Surrendering to emotionalism, leading with our hearts and not our heads, caring for folks, hey, where do I sign up?

Yep, nothing new here. Glomming on to a little misinformation, some revisionist history, and some already destroyed notions about “choice” and you have the party of hugs (ha, I almost typed in the party of “thugs”, Freud knew his stuff).

I was going to take time and eviscerate each one of these silly arguments one at a time but then I found a nice tidy rebuttal penned by another college student, which gives me hope in the next generation.

In order to illustrate the pure delusion among young Democrats, here is my recap. I left out those students who made purely emotional points that need no rebuttal.

You can click down to each counter argument, Mark does a nice job of injecting some reality to the emotional pull of the Democrats. I like the sentiment that if you are for equality, choice, and prefer the option of being an adult, not a dependent child, then you are clearly in the wrong camp.

In the end, these students have no idea why they are Democrats. They’ve just been told by society, academia, Hollywood, and Jon Stewart, that they are supposed to be Democrats.

How true, talk about a stacked deck. Children, as early as middle school, get bombarded by overly partisan teachers pushing their political agendas in every conceivable way. You don’t think the kids see that 99.9% of the cars parked in the school lot has Obama bumper stickers on them? the collectivism, the union aggrandizements, the demonizing of “the rich” as greedy and uncaring, and the lionizing of clowns like Al Gore who would rather have all of us go back to hunting and gathering while he produces a carbon footprint the size of Texas. The high schools and universities are even worse. TV shows and Hollywood promoting the liberal agenda, any newspaper that you pick up, the LSM on all the networks, it is a constant push at indoctrination.

Someday they will learn to think for themselves.

Maybe, but as of now it is still a common misconception that it is cool to be liberal, and really, isn’t it easier to just go with the flow and be like everyone else? I always thought that most of these delusional youngsters would get a clue once they entered the work force, had to work for a living and pay taxes, it is usually at this point that people decide that they would like to keep as much of their hard earned cash as possible.
