Libertarian Straw

Good satire should not be discounted only because you are sympathetic with it’s target, even if the satire is built on straw:

Clever, and whoda thought those wacky libs could come up with something clever?

First off, don’t be hatin’ on The Nuge. I’m all  in favor of a good laugh at the expense of my side, but when you make fun of someone who is a crack shot, both with a gun and a bow, and could kill you in a hundred different ways (although he is such a good environmentalist, that if he did kill you, he would eat you afterwards) you are just asking for trouble.

And someone should point out the obvious to these folks, that is the difference between libertarians (minimal government intrusion) and anarchists (what government, we do what we want).

The perfunctory shot at Beck? who cares, he brings it on himself. Oh, and that nice interracial couple in the video? They are so progressive, I just want to give them both a hug.

No doubt some out there will fall for the pitch, more government, and the sooner the better, and if the left finds a need to keep lecturing me with videos, I prefer scenes with nice sandy beaches and armed pirates, to that of Obama wagging his finger at me again telling me to pay more of my fair share. That part is not at all funny.

Oh, almost forgot, found this in the WSJ this morning:

Somalia would welcome a U.S. special-forces attack on al Qaeda-affiliated militants on Somali soil, similar to the strike that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, said Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed on Wednesday.

“I would prefer training so we can do it ourselves,” Mr. Mohamed said in an interview. “But in the absence of that, if there is a target or a threat to dismantle, I would welcome it.” U.S. officials declined to comment.

Hot dog, now if Somalia ever moves and borders Afghanistan, would got it made.

Always makes me laugh when the left’s response to someone pointing out government is overraching and way too big is that your opposition then must mean you are for anarchy. The concept of a limited government doesn’t apply. Either you are for paradise on earth where government gives us everything we need, or you are for living in a place like Somalia. Frankly, this feels like the left really stretching hard to demonize te other side, because we have so many obvious examples of how their collectivist ideologies eventually run their course, and they have nothing they can say or do to defend the works of Lenin, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Castro, Hitler, Ho Chi Min, Saddam, Chavez, the Kims, and countles other such revolutionaries of the people.

You don’t like Obama? RACIST! You don’t like SS? YOU WANT TO STARVE OLD PEOPLE BY MAKING THEM LIVE ON CAT FOOD! You like guns? YOU ARE FOR BLOODY MURDER! You think government is too big? YOU WANT ANARCHY! You don’t want everyone to have free healthcare? YOU ARE EVIL!

Whatever. Logic isn’t one of these people’s strong suits. They are all about emotional attacks on reason and logic.

Oh NO NO NO, they will do it the RIGHT way this time.

I hate to break it to you, but you are doing much of the same, which you are criticising the left for doing.

A bit binary, no? Advocating some “distributive justice” (to pick a controversial term in US politics) ultimately leads to Pol Pot and Stalin. Really?

Uh, Kimpost, no I am not. Big difference. I was specifically pointing out that the morons on the left that were trying to paint libertarianism in a negative light were outright lying about what libertarianism is about. Somalia isn’t what a country looks like if libertarians have their way: it’s what a country looks like when there is no government whatsoever and anarchy, the rule of the strong, applies. They are flat out lying here. BTW, do you know what kind of government Somalia had before it disintegrated into anarchy? Let me help: they were a Soviet client state.

On the other hand, what a country looks like when the left has its way, isn’t an object for speculation – history provides dozens of examples – and my list proves that. More frightening is the only argument that the left has when what their ideology breeds is pointed out, is the unbelievable and frightening excuse that the horrors inflicted on the world by leftists happened simply because we have not had the right people in charge yet. Then they point to the European socialist states. My answer there is that the whole taking other people’s money to buy votes from nanny staters thing just hasn’t run its course yet, but as the current economic problems that the Euros are facing continues to show, these states remain unsustainable, and eventually will end up either collapsing or having to do things like the they were done in the old USSR.

Of course, I expect leftists not to agree with that because it doesn’t paint a flattering picture of them. Case in point this attempt to pretend me pointing out what the left’s ideology eventually leads to is the same as a bold ass lie about Somalia being an example of a libertarian state.

I don’t see much of the claimed difference. You are suggesting that left wing politics ultimately leads to either collapse or to the USSR. I find that absurd. Western democracies are all mixed economies. Including the United States. The details of our respective nanny states fluctuate over time, but our mixed economies seems to be here to stay. There’s nothing inheritably unsustainable in that. Particular programs might be, but all we need to do is to scrap or reform them. Might be politically tough, but certainly not impossible.
