Bin Laden, Unplugged

The US has released five videos of bin Laden taken from his compound. Here is the most striking one:

I find this striking because it really shows bin Laden for what he was: not some nobel warrior fighting the giant, but a pathetic man reduced to reliving his past glories, his tentacles in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan defeated or reduced. For all the instructions he was sending out, his ability to hurt us has been substantially reduced and is now gone forever.

Still, this remains my favorite bin Laden vid.

In other news, Extreme Liberal speculates that Bradley Manning’s leaks may have forced Obama’s hand on bin Laden. It’s speculation at this point. But it will be interesting to find out. It’s clear that Manning did not filter anything he sent to wikileaks before doing so. Would all his defenders be jumping for joy if his leaks of secret info had resulted in bin Laden escaping?

    Birds of a feather?

First thing I want to is when is Comcast Abbotabod gonna offer Foxnews?

That site you linked to was interesting. I was pursuing some of the other posts, talk about a love affair with Obama. I don’t recall anyone being that googoo over Bush, maybe there was, but this adulation/adoration, went way beyond healthy. I thought the cuckoo left was mad at him, for doing all the right things, like extending the Bush tax cuts, keeping all the Bush/Cheney terror fighting policies in place, murdering someone who deserved his day in court, Gitmo, rendition, the Patriot Act, all those things that make the ACLU go all Tourettes.

I didn’t like the site either. But I do think he raises an interesting point that Obama said go on the raid only days after some Gitmo wikileaks stuff was released.

Certainly, but if true it paints him in a good light, decisive, not prone to paralysis analysis, and all that. Besides, the military knew months ahead of time that he was there and were already training non stop, they were ready.

I also find it funny that some of the commenters (ya think they have their own version of Murgy over there?) were blaming the actual death on the fact that they were rushed and did not have time to plan a more “humane” capture, priceless.

how did you post it? By which I mean what code did you use?

Gonna test it. You’d need to use the HTML embed from that imageshack page, so…

OK. so that works, but embedding images that are wider than the allowed posting area – which changes with every level of nesting – is gonna make for ugly comments.

Another issue to solve. I wonder if there’s a way to force the site to resize them into thumbnails or something.

    *second edit*

Saw your code. You were actually missing the img src part, you only had the a href part, which is just the link. And that was incomplete too. Fixed it and the image popped in.

    *third edit*

Something about the code in your comment broke the formatting that followed it, but it didn’t break it in mine. Hmm. Still more things to fix… :)

Rich are you pasting the HTML code exactly as you get it? because the whole img src= part is missing from your comment when it gets submitted. By which I mean when I see your comment in the wordpress admin section I see raw HTML and that part just isn’t there. I think maybe you have to place it between the code tags w/that button up top.

I found the answer as to why images are not displaying for you. Only I can do it. Admins are the only ones that can add images to comments. It’s actually something WordPress doesn’t allow in the core functionality. I can hack it in, but it opens the door to abuse due to unoptimized images, giant images, unfinished code etc. The general consensus among WP admins is until WordPress handles images the way it handles other embedded media (like YouTube) we’re better off not having images in comments.

So…link to your images in the future. Best I can do…sorry!

Not sure why it told you about spam, unless the system was tripped due to multiple attempts to add an image, maybe?

We can do that. With all the benefits that WordPress brings, one extra step to post an image is small potatoes.

Hal, if I’m reading your post correctly it seems (via Extreme Liberal) to suggest Manning’s leaks forced prezbo to kill Osama probably a full year earlier than would have been optimal for his re-election.

What did he know and when did he know it?!?!

    I don’t think Manning’s that smart… : )

But in watching Bin Laden watching himself, what I get a sense of is that he’s like an old-time mobster who’s waiting for the hitman to show up…

Manning never was very smart, in fact I doubt he knew exactly what he was passing on just due to the volume of data.
But in his role as ‘useful idiot’ he may have, inadvertently damaged slam dunk effort.
